Chairman of NCCIR participates in the Global Symposium for Regulators 2018

During July 9th - 12th, 2018 the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-18) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is being held in Geneva and attended by Mr Oleksandr Zhyvotovskyi, Chairman of NCCIR.

Global Symposium for Regulators is held annually since 2000. Its main goal is to exchange ideas and experiences on the most pressing regulatory issues, discuss issues of providing tools for effective policy, legal and regulatory environment in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

This year GSR-18 is devoted to “New regulatory frontiers”. In particular, such issues as the digital transformations taking place in the ICT sector and creating new regulatory challenges for the development of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G technology; cybersecurity and new business models, as well as extending the framework beyond the traditional regulation of telecommunications / ICT are the subject of discussions.

Participation in the event will be taken by the heads of the telecommunications / ICT national regulatory authorities (hereinafter – NRA) from all regions of the world, the ITU leadership, international organizations and institutions (WTO, World Bank, BEREC, etc.), as well as representatives of such industry companies as Microsoft Corporation, Facebook, Space X and many others.

The event offers great opportunities for establishing bilateral relations with NRA representatives, sharing experience with other members of the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) with regard to new technologies and business models for the comprehensive provision of ICT services.

The GSR-18 hosts the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cybersecurity – Policy and regulatory challenges and opportunities, as well as Regulatory Associations’ (RA) Meeting, Chief Regulatory Officers (CRO) / Industry Advisory Group for Development Issues (IAGDI) Meeting, Parallel Tracks: Regulators’ Track and Industry Leaders’ Track and Multi-stakeholder Roundtable: Achieving new sustainable investment models: how to work together?

The GSR-18 will be completed by the adoption by the GSR-18 Best Practice Guidelines on new regulatory frontiers to achieve digital transformation.

Participation of the Chairman of NCCIR in the event is, above all, an opportunity to engage in a dialogue on global trends in regulation and further development of the ICT sector between stakeholders at the national and international levels, to track new tendencies in the world of technology and regulatory policies, and to engage in the development of the best practices for the issues mentioned.

In addition, on the margins of GSR-18, the Chairman of NCCIR held a meeting with the ITU-D Director Mr Brahima Sanou to discuss cooperation and issues of common interest for Ukraine and ITU.
